Let's get to know Mr. Somphet Successful – The Vision Behind The Different Facets of Vang Vieng.”
Mr. Somphet Successful was born in a small village in Kasi District, Vientiane Province, where life was simple but full of challenges. When he was still very young, his family made the difficult decision to move to Vang Vieng in search of a better life. He grew up in a family of six, and at the age of just 12, his world changed forever when he lost his mother. From that moment, he, his younger sister, and two younger brothers were left in the care of his father.
Even at a young age, Somphet carried responsibilities far beyond his years. While many children were still focused only on school, he was already helping his father care for his siblings, learning what it meant to work hard, stay strong, and never give up. Despite the hardship, he remained deeply committed to education and believed it was the only way to change his future.
During his secondary school years, financial struggles made it difficult for him to continue studying. There were moments when school fees were simply out of reach. Fortunately, his determination was recognized, and the school allowed him to continue his education free of charge as a student from a disadvantaged background. Every day, he traveled to school on a public bus, holding onto his dream with quiet determination.
In the evenings, while others rested, Somphet continued to study English, often riding a second-hand bicycle kindly provided by his family. His passion for learning eventually led him to volunteer as an English teacher with Equal Education for All at Pak Po School in Vang Vieng District, Vientiane Province. Teaching others became not just an act of service, but a way for him to give back to the community that supported him.
As he approached graduation, uncertainty filled his heart. Despite his hard work, he was unsure how he would continue his studies. At that critical moment, kindness changed his path. Friends of Mrs. Robyn Salisbury and Mr. Hank Van Lieshout (an Australian man)stepped in and supported him with a scholarship for his four-year bachelor’s degree. With their help, Somphet was able to continue his education while also working hard to support himself.
After graduating, he devoted himself fully to the tourism industry, where he has now worked for over 16 years. Through his journey, he discovered not only his passion for tourism but also its power to create opportunities for local communities and preserve culture.
This belief became the foundation of his vision. Today, he has created a unique travel experience through The Different Facets of Vang Vieng—an experience built not only on adventure, but on real stories, local connection, and a deep love for his homeland.

Different Facets is a small local organization dedicated to supporting and helping more people every day because we truly believe in our mission. Our goal is not only to create meaningful travel experiences for our guests, but also to improve the lives of local people in the villages around us.
Through our activities and community-based experiences, we provide local families with job opportunities, fair income, and a chance to preserve their traditions and culture for future generations. Local Communities
On 03rd March 2025, our local team uses a small extended motorbike to collect and clean trash, plastic bottles, and waste around the village and nearby areas. We believe that keeping the environment clean is very important, especially because we live closely connected to nature and our local community.
Every day, our team works hard to help protect the beauty of our village and create a cleaner and healthier environment for local families, children, and future generations. We care deeply about our community, our surroundings, and the place we proudly call home.
By keeping the roads, riversides, and village areas clean, we hope to encourage both local people and visitors to respect and protect the environment together. Even small actions can create a positive impact. Through our community efforts, we aim to support sustainable tourism while preserving the natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere of our village for many years to come.

We are delighted to support and contribute to the boat racing season. On behalf of the entire Different Facets of Vang Vieng team, we are honored to share a small gesture of appreciation by donating T-shirts to the Army at Ban Don Mo Village, Luang Prabang Province. This contribution reflects our strong belief in community spirit, cultural preservation, and mutual support. We deeply value the important role the local authorities and army play in maintaining peace, safety, and tradition in the region. Through this donation, we hope to express our gratitude and strengthen our connection with the community. We believe that even small acts of kindness can help build stronger relationships and a better future for everyone involved in this meaningful celebration.
